What is Photoshop?


Photoshop is a kind of software, used for editing of photos and graphics.
Example- if you want to change the background of an image, you can use Photoshop software.


To know about “Photoshop”, you have to learn about its basic components.
   Types of basic components-


As- Menu bar, Toolbox, palettes, and image area. Etc…

  • Menu bar: Menu bar is found at the top side of Photoshop window. It contains all options of Photoshop. To choose any option click once on that.


 

  • Tool box: Tool box is found at the left side in Photoshop window. Tool box have all options in shortcut way. It shows with small black arrow in the lower left corner. Some small blocks have other options.

Example- To the right of this box, rectangular box contains- the Rectangle Tool, Rounded Rectangle Tool, Ellipse Tool, Polygon Tool, Line Tool, and Custom shape tool in the fly-out menu.
If you want to activate the Rectangle tool than click it once. But if the tool is hidden, point to the appropriate tool family icon and hold the mouse button down; the fly-out menu will be appeared. Click on the desired tool in the menu to activate it.

 

 

3- Palettes: The Palettes are located under the Window menu. It includes-

  • Navigator
  • Info
  • color
  • swatches
  • styles
  • layer

 

  • channels
  • paths
  • history
  • actions
  • character
  • paragraph

 

When you select the Photoshop, automatically it will open on Photoshop window to the left side. You can see it below.

  • Layers: layers are the type of Images. When we used to edit an Image. First we create a back ground and then we write some text. The containing first layer is background and second layer is a text. That is called layers.

Each layer can have different image and effects.
The given example contains three layers: the background contains  blue layer, the red square layer, and the green circle layer.

 

 

Without selection you can not do any work. After selecting blue layer, we will be able to edit something on this layer. Without selecting circle layer, it is not possible to edit something on this layer.

 

 

 

Uses of Icons in layers palette.


 

 The red arrow indicates an eye. This eye works for hiding & showing the active layer. When it opens, indicates that active layer is opened & when set off, results in hiding the active layer.

 The blue arrow indicates a paint brush. This paint brush shows that the layer is active and it is currently editable.

 The green arrow indicates a chain like structure. This chain shows that the layer is locked. After locking, you can not edit anything more to this layer.

The yellow arrow indicates a new layer icon. A single click on this icon will result in the automatic creation of a new layer.
